In short: there is no single price for social media management in Nigeria. What you pay depends on how many platforms you need, how much content (especially video) is created, how fast replies are handled, whether ads are run, and whether a freelancer or an agency does the work. Ad spend is almost always paid on top of the management fee. Decide your goal and scope first, then compare quotes for the same work.
“How much do you charge to manage my page?” It is one of the first questions business owners ask us, and it is a fair one. The honest answer about social media management cost in Nigeria is: it depends on what you need done.
One person may quote you a small fee to “handle your Instagram”. Another may quote ten times more. Both may be fair. They are just pricing very different work.
This guide explains what you are actually paying for, what drives the price up or down, and how to set a budget that makes sense for your business, whether you sell food in Lekki, run a salon in Abuja or own a fashion brand that sells mostly on WhatsApp.

How much does social media management cost in Nigeria?
You will see a very wide range of prices, from students offering to post for you for a small fee, to agencies charging a monthly retainer for a full team. A retainer is simply a fixed fee you pay every month for an agreed amount of work.
Instead of chasing one “correct” number, look at the price in three parts:
- The management fee: what you pay the person or agency for their time and skill.
- Content production: photos, video shoots, models, props or editing. Sometimes included, sometimes extra.
- Ad spend: the money paid to Meta or TikTok to show your ads. Almost always separate.
When you compare quotes, make sure you are comparing all three. A cheap quote that leaves out video and ads may end up costing you more than a higher quote that covers everything.
What is included in a social media management package?
A proper package is more than “posting on your page”. It should cover the whole job, from planning to reporting. At the very least, ask for these in writing:
- Strategy: your goal, your audience and a content plan for the month.
- Content creation: graphics, short videos (Reels or TikToks), captions and hashtags.
- Scheduling and posting: content goes out on time, without you chasing anyone.
- Community management: replying to comments and DMs (direct messages) politely and quickly.
- A monthly report: what was done, what happened and what will change next month.
- Ads management (if included): setting up, watching and adjusting your paid ads.
- A review call: a short monthly check-in so you stay in control.

If a quote does not mention reporting at all, ask about it. Without a report, you have no way to know whether your money is working.
What affects the price of social media management?
Six things decide most of what you will be quoted.
| Factor | Costs less when… | Costs more when… |
|---|---|---|
| Platforms | One or two | Four or more |
| Posts per month | 8–12 posts | Daily posts and Stories |
| Video | Simple phone videos | Professional shoots and editing |
| Replies to DMs | Business hours only | Fast, all-day replies |
| Ads | No paid ads | Several ad campaigns |
| Who does the work | Solo freelancer | An agency team |

Video is the big one
Short video now does a lot of the heavy lifting on Instagram and TikTok, and it takes far more time than a graphic. Someone has to plan it, film it (often at your shop or office), edit it and write the caption. If your quote includes several Reels every week, expect it to cost more than a package of designed posts only.
Replies are sales
For many Nigerian businesses, the DM is where the sale happens: “How much?”, “Do you deliver to Ikeja?”, “Is it available in size 12?”. If you want someone replying quickly all day, that is real work and it will be priced in. If you prefer to handle DMs and WhatsApp yourself, say so and the quote should come down.
Freelancer, agency or in-house: which costs less?

You have three main options, and each suits a different stage of business.
- A freelancer is one person working for several clients. Usually the most affordable option, and a good fit if you need one or two platforms with simple content. The risk: if they fall sick or get busy, your page goes quiet.
- An agency gives you a team: strategy, design, video, ads and reporting. It costs more, but you get more skills and steady cover. A good fit if social media brings in a big share of your sales, or you plan to run ads.
- An in-house staff member works only for you. You pay a monthly salary, plus their phone, data and any tools, and you need to manage them. It makes sense once you have enough work to keep someone busy full time.
There is no “best” answer. A new home bakery in Ilorin and a real estate company in Lekki need very different levels of support.
Is ad budget included in the social media management fee?

Usually, no. This is the most common surprise for business owners, so be clear on it before you sign.
- The management fee pays for the work: planning, creating, posting, replying and reporting.
- The ad spend is paid to the platform (Meta for Facebook and Instagram, or TikTok) to show your ads to more people.
We recommend that the ad account is in your business name and that ad spend is charged to your card. That way you can always see exactly what was spent, and you keep the account if you ever change provider.
Also plan for tax. Meta has charged 7.5% VAT on ads bought from Nigeria since January 2022, as >reported by TheCable. So if you plan ₦100,000 of Facebook and Instagram ads in a month, budget about ₦107,500. TikTok lets you set a daily budget for each campaign; you can read how that works in >TikTok’s help centre.
How to set your social media management budget
Before you ask anyone for a price, take ten minutes to work out what you actually need. You will get clearer quotes and avoid paying for things you do not use.
- Pick one goal. More orders, more enquiries or more bookings. “Grow our page” is not a goal on its own.
- Choose one or two platforms. Go where your customers already are. For many Nigerian businesses that means Instagram plus WhatsApp, or TikTok if you sell to a younger audience.
- Decide the workload. How many posts and videos a month? Who replies to DMs, and how fast?
- Split the budget into two pots. One for the management fee, one for ad spend (plus VAT).
- Commit for three months, then review. The first month is mostly setting up and testing. Judge the results at the end of month three.

Questions to ask before you pay anyone
Send the same questions to every person or agency you are considering. Their answers tell you as much as their prices do.
- What exactly is included each month (number of posts, videos, Stories, platforms)?
- Who creates the content, and do I need to provide photos or be on camera?
- How quickly will you reply to comments and DMs, and during which hours?
- Is ad spend included? Whose name is the ad account in?
- What will your monthly report show me?
- Is there a contract, and what is the notice period if I want to stop?
- Can I see examples of accounts you manage and the results you got?
Here is a short message you can copy and send on WhatsApp:

Red flags: when a cheap package costs you more

A low price is not a problem in itself. Watch out for these signs instead:
- Promises of a fixed number of followers. Nobody can honestly guarantee this, and bought or fake followers can hurt your reach.
- No monthly report. If you cannot see results, you cannot judge the value.
- No contract or written scope. Misunderstandings about “what was included” are guaranteed.
- They ask for your personal login. Professionals ask to be added through Meta Business Suite or as a team member, so you stay the owner of your page.
- Copy-and-paste content. Generic quotes and stock images that could belong to any business will not make anyone buy from you.
Getting the best value for your money
Social media management is worth paying for when it is tied to a business goal and measured every month. Start with a clear scope, keep ad spend separate, give it three months, and judge the results by orders and enquiries, not likes alone.
At Sublime Media, we start every client with a clear goal, a written monthly plan and a simple report you can understand. That is how we grew the Ilorin Emirate Mall Instagram account from 0 to 13K followers in three months. If you would like a quote for your business, see our social media management services or send us a message and tell us your goal.

Frequently asked questions
How much should a small business budget for social media management in Nigeria?
There is no single price, because quotes depend on the number of platforms, posts, videos and hours of replies you need. Start from your goal, choose one or two platforms, decide how much content you need each month, and then ask two or three providers to quote for that same scope. Keep a separate amount aside for ads.
Is ad budget included in the social media management fee?
Usually not. The management fee pays for the work: planning, content, posting, replies and reports. Ad spend is the money paid to Meta or TikTok to show your ads, and it is normally billed separately, often straight to your own card. Ads bought from Nigeria on Facebook and Instagram also attract 7.5% VAT.
Should I pay a social media manager per post or per month?
Per month is better for most businesses. A monthly package covers planning, posting, replies and reporting, not just the design of each post, and it gives the social media manager time to learn what works for your brand. Paying per post often leaves out the strategy and community management that bring in sales.
Is it cheaper to hire a freelancer or an agency?
A solo freelancer usually charges less than an agency, and can be a good fit for one or two platforms. An agency costs more because you get a team: strategy, design, video, ads and reporting, with cover when someone is sick or travelling. Compare what each includes, not just the price.
How long before I see results from social media management?
Give it at least three months. The first month is mostly setting up, learning your audience and testing content. By the end of month three you should see clear signs of progress against your goal, such as more enquiries or orders, and a report that explains what is working and what will change.
